The APA Fair Elections Committee has counted the mail ballots in its 2008 election of officers. Please extend a congratulations to the winners, who will be sworn into office in August for the 2008-2009 term:President Elect: Dan Sosnowski VP Government: Keith Gaines VP Law Enforcement: Pam Shaw VP Private: Chuck Slupski Director: Elmer Criswell Director: Barry Cushman Treasurer: Chad Russell Two Board members are in the middle of their two-year terms, and will remain on the Board: Secretary: Vickie Murphy-Carr Director: Don Weinstein. The current President Elect, Mr. Michael Gougler, will become APA President in August, and the current President, Donnie Dutton, will become the Board Chair. This was the APA's initial run with the mail ballot. Despite some bumps in the road it came off just fine. There were over 800 ballots submitted, giving this election the largest member participation in our history. My thanks to the Fair Elections Committee for completing their tireless and thankless task, and especially to Dr. Frank Horvath for being the inspiration and lead volunteer in helping bring this to pass. My hope is that the future holds greater membership involvement in the Association's affairs, and that the expanded democratic processes will provide a means for members to select the best from among us to lead. Don,Just want to extend my congrat's to all the newly elected officers of our APA. Don I met with and spoke to you back in Vegas awhile back and among other ideas that you had, you expressed the desire to hold elections open to all members of the APA. You should be proud of this achievement, just as our membership is of you. Thank you for your outstanding efforts in reaching this goal. Thank You Tony O'Neill IP: Logged |

Don,your statement of: "The current President Elect, Mr. Michael Gougler, will become APA President in August..." IS a typo? Right? Jim

Jim: According to the APA By-Laws, the President Elect automatically becomes President at each new term. This provision, along with the mail ballot, was approved by the membership at the 2007 Annual Meeting. It was modeled on the process used by another professional orgainization, and is part of a plan to smooth the transition between administrations. Mike Gougler was elected President Elect in 2007, and therefore becomes APA President at the swearing-in on the Thursday of the seminar. He will serve one year, and be replaced by the next President Elect.Hope this helps. And Tony: thanks for the kind words. First beverage-of-choice in Indianapolis is on me. Don IP: Logged |

Don,that clears it up. I was under the impression the officer's term were 2 years in length. Thanks, Jim IP: Logged |

I would like to extend my congratulations to those who were elected. Furthermore, I thank those who served the APA membership in this election process, and participated by voting in the first truly open election in the history of the (little) APA.This process further strengthens our professional organization. The President Elect system helps to ensure congruence in our direction, experience in the upper most levels of our decision making body, and provides a fair check and balance system through an election process that enfranchises the entire membership. To those of you that voted for me in the election, I thank you. To those who did not vote for me, I hope that you might consider me in future elections. As for now, it is time to once again become one as an organization and help support those fine men and women whom were elected this year to lead our organization into the future. My hope is that the increased number of participants in the election will equate to an influx of fresh ideas and a renewed commitment through stewardship within the organization and ultimately the profession. God bless to those of us whom are at liberty from harm. Godspeed and safe return to those in harms way.
